Vasarely, father of the op-ed movement, was interested in geometry and illusion and his ubiquitous 3D cubes were the starting point for this design. Here a simple detail of the cube is used to suggest a new asymmetric effect. The potential for illusion remains but the unique texture of screen-printed glaze on ceramic tiles offers a different kind of depth.

This bathroom tile installation from Salt Design Co (@saltdesignco) is an example of the impact achieved using Recubed tiles in a narrow colour range. On a white base glaze, colours 501, 502 and 503 combine in a design that creates a balance between regularity and chaos. Each four-tile combination of screen-printed shapes threatens to fall apart into disorder, without ever actually doing so.
